where's the next part of the story...

...well since we are waiting for Mikes next installment of the story, thought I'd write somemore. Tonight is the memorial gathering for Ken Sheppard, at the Missouri Theater, so it should be a who's who of Columbia Musicians and the surrounding areas musicians. Ken and his store were well known to a lot of people.....what can be said, except to enjoy the many lives Ken had touched. This will be the third time a lot of these folks are gathered together again, with Forrest Roses Memorial, Jerome Wheelers and now Kens....a sad, but joyous time.....
anyway, to move on to other things....for those of you who know how to download Bit torrents on the intenet, the Hilary Scott band now has a torrent up of our Blue Note Show, from when we opened for Little Feat......these are files you download, then turn to wave files, then burn them to CD.....and future shows will be put up....heres the link...http://bt.etree.org/details.php?id=16676. If you have cable, DSL or higher net connections, it works well, if you have dial-up, it takes to long and ties up your service....so here is an oppertunity to get a live recording of a show you probably attended.....if you're interested in how to do it, you might check out http://bt.etree.org and

life is to short........

....wow, here in Columbia, we just lost another friend and musician, Ken Sheppard...fellow musician and owner of Crazy Music.....any musician in Columbia that has been around awhile, has shopped at his store, or has seen him play. He was one of the many musicians who had performed at the Lee Ruth CD Release Party back in December, along with another musician we lost this spring, Jerome Wheeler.....luckily we got both of them recorded at that show......we've also lost Forrest Rose and Don Shipps, both bass players, this spring, too.......
I had bought my first Guild 6 string Acoustic guitar from Ken back in 75. (the dark red one seen in many of the early band pictures).....I have had Ken sit in before when I was playing a duo at a Twilight Festival many years ago, and he was an accomplished guitarist. The Band also played with Ken on a few songs as the finish to the Singer/Songwriter Symposium we played a few years ago.......Jerome I had seen and heard around Columbia many times in various bands of his, even including the Catnip Band .........Forrest I had meet at a gig in which the band Monkey Grip was playing and Forrest was tearing up the up-right bass and had read many of his columns in the Columbia Daily Tribune........Don I had met about 15 years ago, and he use to stop by the station (KOPN) and we'd do an impromptu radio interview......and he use to call whenever they were playing in town (in his band, Don Shipps and the Titanic Blues Band).......this is just sort of a wake up call to everyone.....life is to short, don't put off doing the things you'd want to.....the excuses we sometimes use are pretty lame....and don't forget to say what you want to say to the ones you love......as many times as you can.......cause you never know what tomorrow will bring....also along with the passing of these friends of the band, I saw a DVD of our Come In, Come In cd release party we did 2 or 3 years ago at the Ramada Inn here in Columbia.......yes it had it's imperfections, it was live, but now it's on DVD for eternity...it was a blast to see and hear us from back then. and to see Nikki sing with us.(whats she up to now).....whats great about these shows whether on video or audio, they are now a part of recorded history, and they are a good record of them , compared to now........there were many bands I was in , in the past, that there was no known recorded history, so it fades into a mental rememberance, whether right or wrong, its all I have.....but to actually to be able to hear it again, would be great.......and some of those people have long since passed on........I guess all I'm wanting to say is......dont forget to take the camera, or the tape recorder, or the video camera, because you will be recording a piece of history, not only for you ,but for those around you.....and don't forget to say I love you to those close to you, cause you never know what tomorrow may bring........and hopefully it will be a new day......thanks again to everyone who has touched this band and it's members, in any way at all, whether by a smile, and hand shake, or a nod of the head, or a conversation.......it all has meant something to us, regardless of the size of the action......and thanks for reading, I feel better now............see everyone in September....B.A.

thanks to all who came......

Just wanted to say thanks to all the fans ( old and new ) who came sunday to the Shelter Gardens show, you made it a great event...........we had folks there fromhere, plus Jeff City, Tibbets, Wes Plains, St. Louis, and even Fairbanks, Alaska..........saw a lot of new faces, along with all the familiar ones........it's really great to look out and see smiling faces that we know, and to see people singing along.......saw some folks who first heard us when we opened for Little Feat back in April, others from First Night, and even some from The Officer Down Benefit Concert, to all you repeat offenders, it's good to see you again and to all the new ones.....welcome aboard. We want to send a big thank you out to the folks with Shelter, they were very gracious and did surprize Hilary with the Birthday Cookie and song......they know how to treat the bands and also a big, big thank you to Nelson Audio......if some of you have noticed, they have been doing quite a few sound jobs for us, we are beginning to be really comfortable with each other, and we are all beginning to feel like a family. ...... we put a lot of trust in them, our sound that gets to you is totally in their control and they've been doing a surperb job........
As you may have noticed , we were missing Loyd, who was in Texas , with his drum students. It was just like in the beginning, before Loyd joined the band, but we did find ourselves, playing some of his parts in our heads as they came up.........each musical part is different, non dependent on the other, but when one is missing, we find ourselves hearing their parts in our head, as it should be.......as it is when we are all together.......so in closing, once again thank all of you for being there and for sharing Hilary's Birthday with her, it was probably the biggest Birthday party she ever had........and it was a joy to be a part of it......so spread the word and we'll see everyone in September.......B.A.
